Having fun with dads & grandads

Having fun with dad, or grandad was the name of the game at our first Who Let the Dads Out session.

All together - "bacon buttieeees"

The dads and children  got stuck into crafts, card making, games and driving a scaled model of Thomas the Tank engine at the Father’s Day launch of Who Let the Dads Out which is a new type of toddler group designed just for dads, grandads and male carers to spend an entire morning devoted to having quality time with their children.

One grandad said, “Mia and Jack thought the bacon butties were yummy, thanks, it was a brilliant morning enjoyed with my family”.

Matthew & James absorbed with the Thomas the Tank track from Heywood Model Railway Group

Organisers of the new group, Peter Lloyd, Carl Roach, Les Griffiths & Keith McConnell, have long said: “That there has been a need for a project like this in our local area specifically aimed at supporting dad’s to spend play time with their children. Who Let the Dad’s Out is a great opportunity for dads, grandads or male carers to spend quality time with their child and to socialise with other dads. It’s also a chance for mums to have some well deserved time off”.

“The session was very relaxed, and there were lots of toys available to play with, and craft activities so dads could help their little ones create a masterpiece, and a mixture of games, plus bacon butties, drinks and biscuits for the children.

Special Guest – Thomas the Tank

To  mark the opening of our first Who Let the Dads Out session in the Lighthouse we have arranged for a special visit of a Thomas the tank model railway track.

“For this first session we have arranged a special treat with a visit from the popular Thomas the Tank model railway track built by Heywood Model Railway Club. The track will be there for the children to use and enjoy the hands-on thrill of driving Thomas and his friends for themselves, (dads will have to form an orderly queue, or look into joining the model club for themselves now that they are based with us here in the Lighthouse.”

This model track was built by Heywood Model Railway Group and is regularly seen on the model railway exhibition circuit, and we have been able to arrange for the track to visit the Lighthouse.

Come along and try out your train driving skills, its not as easy as it looks.

Coming soon – Saturday 18th June

Who let the Dads Out? is a new monthly dads and kids activity from the Lighthouse Project.

The sessions will run on a Saturday morning and they are aimed at providing some activity focussed play time for Dads and their Kids. For too long Mums and Tots have had all the fun, but now there is something new about to burst forth that means Mums get some time off and Dads get to do some focussed time with their Kids in a safe environment.

PS, don’t tell mum… no tea and biscuits for us, we do bacon butties!!
I thought that would grab your attention.
